Removing Common Administrative Tools from Users on Windows NT/2000 Workstations Make payments with PayPal - it's fast, free and secure!

You may want to remove the Common Administrative Tools from all users on the Start Menu - > Programs -> Administrative Tools (common) so that users have no access to these tools. However, if you log on as local administrator, you want these tools available to the local administrator of the workstation.

This MUST be done at each Microsoft NT/2000 Workstation.

1.                  Logon as local administrator (NOT the domain administrator account)

2.                  Start->Run-> Explorer

3.                  WinNT Workstations  c:\winnt\Profiles\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Administrative Tools(common)

Win 2000 Pro   c:\documents and settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Administrative Tools

4.                  Drag and drop (move, DO NOT copy) the subfolder Administrative Tools (common) to C:\winnt\Profiles\Administrator  or  c:\documents and settings\administrator\…

(Note: DO NOT move to C:\……….\Administrator.000 since this is the profile for the domain administrators account not the local administrator account)

5.                  Repeat for each Microsoft NT/2000 Pro Workstation .  This procedure can be used to remove other programs also.

 Network Neighborhood view of a workgroups desktop, start menu, program folders on server. Manage workgroups remotely this way.
