Configuring
the 95/98
Client Desktop

Generate an account using MysaNiTy’s add user, with the
option to add user to the administrators group checked. Then you simply logon
onto a workstation using this account. This will allow you to configure the
desktop however you wish.
The logon script will redirect the workstation to the
MysaNiTy shared desktop folders on the server. You will need to copy the
original desktop from this workgroup to the new one on the server. All
computers participating in this workgroup will get their desktop from this
workgroups desktop folder on the server. Accounts not members of the Windows NT
administrators group will have read only access to this folder and not be able
to modify the desktop.
If you are NOT a member of the Windows NT administrators
group you CANNOT modify icons on the desktop, start menu, etc.
To Copy the original client desktop and start menu setup
over to the new setup, (see diagrams next
page )
1) Start
--> RUN type explorer then enter in the path to the desktop file
C:\Windows\desktop
and press Enter.
2) Here are
the files from your previous Windows desktop settings. You can drag the icons
from C:\Windows\desktop out onto the desktop.
The Programs folder on the Start
Menu can be found at
C:\Windows\Start Menu\Programs. Drag the subfolders located under Programs
to the \\servername\desktops\workgroupname\Programs folder.
3) Check the
Startup folder for shortcuts located at
c:\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
and copy any to
\\server\desktops\workgroupname\Startup
6) Check the
Start Menu folder for shortcuts located at
C:\Windows\Start Menu and copy any folders here to
\\server\desktops\workgroupname\Startmenu
Remember, you need only do this at one computer. All changes
on this computer will be seen on all the other computers around the lab on next
Logon or by pressing F5 on other workstations in this workgroup.
