XP Professional Workstations – Set Default Printer not working.

*** Note:  Printer Name MUST  Match the Printer Share Name for XP Professional ***

The SetDefaultPrinter scripting option in mysaNiTy requires that the printer name exactly match the printer share name for XP Professional. This feature adds scripting to the logon script that allows you to set which printer will be the default print during logon at XP & 2000 Professional workstations. Shared printers need to be shared from an NT4, XP and/or 2000 Professional workstation or server.

In the below example a Canon s820 printer is shared from a Windows 2003 Server. The printer property is being changed at the Windows 2003 Server. Recommend changing the Printer Name to Match the Share Name. See below example.

1.  Double Click to open the Printer.. Printer -> Properties

2. Select the General Tab – Printer Name =  “Canon S820”   Set Printer Name to match Share Name as shown Below.

Note:  Printer Name can also be changed in the Printers and Faxes window by right clicking and renaming the printer to exactly match the printers share name.
