Internet Information Server 4 (IIS 4) - Installation issues and mysaNiTy.

Incorrect installations of Internet Information Server 4.0
may result in improper functioning of IIS and mysaNiTy being unable to
move or delete accounts. MysaNiTy has been tested using Internet Information
Server versions 2 to 5 successfully where installations or upgrades of IIS have
been done following proper installation documentation from Microsoft. Microsoft
recommends carefully reading the following documentation for IIS 4 before
installation (Installing
IIS 4 from Microsoft Support).
MysaNiTy creates virtual directories to each users www
subfolder located in each users home folder. An incorrect install of
IIS can result in locks placed on the www folders thus, preventing users folder
to be moved or deleted.
Testing mysaNiTy with IIS 4+
1. Create two new groups using mysaNiTy,
testgroup and testgroup1 (mysaNiTy->Account management->Add Groups) and create a
couple of test accounts ..
2. Run Windows Explorer and open the testgroup
folder where the accounts are subfolders. (drive:\useracc\testgroup),
close Windows Explorer.
3. Using mysaNiTy account management, move the
testgroup user accounts from testgroup to testgroup1
4. Run Windows Explorer and open the testgroup1
folder, press F5 a couple of times with Windows Explorer open to ensure
that Windows Explorer has refreshed its views. You should now see these account
home folders located under testgroup1.
5. One last test - run mysaNiTy -> account
management-> select the group testgroup1 and choose to delete the whole group of
users in testgroup1. (Make sure that Windows Explorer does not have any of the
testgroup1 user accounts folders highlighted. Windows Explorer may also place
locks on these.) Use Windows Explorer to confirm these are deleted. (Remember F5
to refresh Windows Explorer views)
Note: If you could not move or delete these account folders
IIS 4.0 may not installed correctly. You can uninstall IIS 4 and
reinstall( Read:
Installing IIS 4 from Microsoft Support) and IIS 2 or
3. Contact us on how to repair these folders. (support@my-sanity.com)
MysaniTy uses a simple text based database to store user folder information
making support simple for all network administrators.
We will be providing more information relating to this issue
in the near future.
